Why is it important for our data to be encrypted and private?

Think back to a time when the computer did not exist. Now imagine you’d like to write a letter to a friend. You would have to write out your message on a piece of paper, get an envelope and a stamp, and put it all in a mailbox to be taken by your mailman the next day.
